Phoebe Kosman

Head of Marketing and Communications—Nosy Crow Inc.

Phoebe Kosman began her career at Harvard University Press in 2005, where she helped launch such projects as the Digital Loeb Classical Library and the Murty Classical Library of India and ultimately led the publicity department.  After Harvard, she followed a passion for high-quality children’s books to Candlewick Press.

At Candlewick, Kosman led publicity and marketing campaigns for a range of key titles, handled domestic corporate communications, and collaborated with such diverse entities as Pizza Hut’s Book It! reading incentive program, MIT Press, the Library of Congress, and Every Child a Reader on initiatives and projects to expand children’s reading lives. Most recently, Kosman worked closely with Newbery Medal-winning author Meg Medina on her two-year term as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, which brought Medina to 32 schools and libraries in 11 states to visit with thousands of children.

Kosman is notorious for the frequency with which she quotes Helen Oxenbury’s declaration that “It is impossible to be too much on the side of the child.” That child-first ethos drives not only Kosman’s passion for Nosy Crow’s beautifully crafted, thoughtful, and profoundly reader-friendly books, but also her commitments to representation in children’s publishing, combatting book bans, and ensuring that every child has access to books that will enlarge their world.
